RETURN OF FACILITIES FRIDAY!

We begin with a look at GWF Catering, the Knowsley-based, Northwest operating catering services that have kept production fed throughout the LCR since 2021.

Making their starts as an events caterer over 15 years ago, GWF finally made its breakthrough into the film and TV industry after the Covid period, first working on the production of the Rebel Wilson-led The Almond and the Seahorse across Merseyside in 2021. Since then, owner Joe Fay has helped guide GWF to some of the biggest productions filmed in the region, such as the Amazon Prime’s recently released Lazarus and currently working on season 2 of This City Is Ours as the production returns to Liverpool.

A typical day for the GWF team involves arriving at a Unit Base 2 hours before breakfast to provide the crew with various breakfast options: hot or cold! They also cover catering for lunchtime, accounting for numerous dietary requirements across the often-vast number of cast and crew. Normally, GWF will feed around 100 people a day, but on big productions like Lazarus, that number could go up to 300. GWF’s flexibility and dedication to accommodating the need’s production cast and crew means they are in pretty high demand for upcoming productions!

Joe Fay says: “What you’ve got to realise is that it’s hard work! We arrive about 2 hours before breakfast and leave about 2 hours after lunch and we don’t stop all day, we’ve got to keep working. For some of the TV crew there’s a lot of waiting around and being patient, not us! When we were really busy last year, I had a few TV crew members working in my kitchens, they were absolutely knackered because they never stopped for the 10 hours!
