FACILTIES FRIDAY: FROM SET TO SCREEN!

This week’s Facilities Friday dives deep into LA Post, the post-production arm of one of Liverpool’s longest running and most revered production companies LA Productions.

“LA Post provides a service both for external television companies who come to the region to film and for our own productions,” says Faye Ryan, Head of Post. “We look after the whole post production process from as soon as something is filmed, ingest and data management, right through to final delivery.”

The LA Post facilities offer a comprehensive post-production package, with five edit suites, two foley studios/laboratory, two audio mixing suites, offline and online editing and in house grading provided by award winning in‑house colourists. “We provide all the services you need for post-production, it’s a complete package of post production facilities!” Faye adds.

Founded more than 25 years ago by Colin McKeown, LA Productions was built around a fully integrated production model, with post-production embedded in-house from the outset. “Colin basically emulated what he’d achieved at Brookside,” explains Faye. “Having everything under one roof from conception of an idea right through to delivery for the channel. We provide everything.”

Alongside post on LA Productions’ own output, LA Post works extensively on projects for external production companies. Recent credits include Time series one and two, plus This City Is Ours series one and two, for the BBC.

Faye proudly boasts, “Post Production facilities provided by LA Post start from data management and ingest where we have two dedicated hireable DIT vehicles, we run dailies labs, and we’re currently ingesting and transferring media for ITV drama Saviour. We bring the footage in, transcode it, ingest it.”

Faye brings more than 25 years’ experience to her role, having previously worked with Colin McKeown early in her career before spending many years producing documentaries. “I came back to Liverpool having had an extensive career all over the UK on scripted and non-scripted projects” she says, “As Head of LA Post I can apply what I’ve learned over those years to this very demanding and exciting role, recently delivering 5 episodes of Play For Today for Channel 5.

Among LA Post’s standout in‑house credits is Unforgivable for the BBC, produced entirely on site and recently awarded two national RTS Awards. “Unforgiveable – The subject matter, getting the chance to work with Jimmy McGovern, everything being done in‑house here – it was just incredible,” says Faye. Other notable LA Productions titles brought to screens via LA Post include Merseyside Detectives, Broken, CareAnthony, Common and 65 episodes of the anthology series Moving On for BBC1.

LA Post also proudly produced the Liverpool Film Office 35th anniversary showreel, working closely with the Film Office to celebrate Liverpool’s screen heritage. “It was about showcasing the city of Liverpool and all the amazing film and TV programmes that have been shot here over the years,” explains Faye. “Choosing the right clips and the right words so it hits you and makes you think, ‘wow – Liverpool is incredible’.” (We agree!)

Reflecting on what continues to draw productions to the city, Faye points first to the people. “You get such a warm, friendly welcome,” she says. “Everyone’s talented, hardworking and keen to get the job done, all set against this amazing backdrop of architecture.”

With its end‑to‑end facilities, experienced team and long‑standing reputation, LA Post continues to play a key role in supporting film and television production in the Liverpool City Region. From secure ingest and data management through to edit, sound, colour and delivery. LA Post offers a fully integrated post‑production solution – reinforcing Liverpool’s status as a leading hub at every stage of production.  Last but not least its asset to any external production company is it would be hard to beat its cost effectiveness.
