Facilities Friday: Making the Imaginary Real
For our latest feature of Facilities Friday, we visited Karl Sharples of KSKS TV & Film in Fazakerley.
A skilled craftsman and propmaker, with 20 years’ experience in welding, engineering and joinery, Karl describes his role as ‘making imaginary things real or real things fake!’
Karl was inspired to take his first steps into the film and TV industry after visiting an exhibition in Cardiff and got to see all the props from his favourite TV show Doctor Who up close, and this inspired him to start a career in prop-making. A career highlight was making the card holders desk and occasionally working on the iconic clock for Countdown when it was on ITV! More recently he has made props for the likes of A Woman of Substance, Sexy Beast, and Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man- where he did almost all of the metal work personally or had input as the HOD welder.
After working with film construction companies over the years and motivated by the desire to see a job through to completion, he recently made the decision to establish his own company and so KSKS was born!
We can say the future is looking bright for KSKS with such a talented craftsman at the helm, and we can’t wait to see what he works on next!
