Trailer released for BBC’s Henpocalypse! filmed in Wirral
BBC comedy Henpocalypse! will be heading to our screens next week after filming in Wirral earlier this year.
Facilitated and supported by the Liverpool Film Office, Henpocalypse! from Various Artists Ltd, used the former Pensby High School for Boys as their base, building a set within the space.
The production then filmed at several locations across Wirral such as Heswall – notably Dawstone Park – Birkenhead and Woodchurch.
They also filmed in Snowdonia.
Starring Elizabeth Berrington (The Responder, The Pact) as mother of the bride Bernadette and Lucie Shorthouse (We Are Lady Parts) as demanding bride Zara, the series is centred around a hen-do which is interrupted by the apocalypse.
The bridal party leave their Birmingham council estate for a hen do in an isolated Welsh cottage where they are forced to break quarantine and venture into post-apocalyptic Snowdonia piece together what has happened in the outside world.
Written by Caroline Moran, the comedy series also stars Danny Dyer as a spirit animal, Callie Cooke (Cheaters, Peacock) as chief bridesmaid Shelly, Lauren O’Rourke (White Gold, Drifters) as conspiracy theorist beautician Veena, Kate O’Flynn (Landscapers, Everyone Else Burns) as one woman disaster area Jen while Ben McGregor (The Tucker) will join the cast as entrepreneurial stripper Drew.
It seems that the cast enjoyed their time in Wirral, when aske if there were any funny tales from set, Elizabeth (Bernadette) said: “There is a scatological tale that must not be repeated to protect individuals involved (obvs). What happened in Pensby stays in Pensby.”
While Lauren (Veena) said: “I’ve got one I can’t tell but all I’ll say is ‘the Pensby clogger…’”
– Guess we will never know!
Henpocalypse! begins on Tuesday 15 August at 10pm on BBC Two and BBC iPlayer. The whole series will be available on BBC iPlayer.
