About Us
Liverpool Film Office is an administrative department of Liverpool City Council. We facilitate filming throughout the Liverpool City Region in the boroughs of Liverpool, Wirral, Sefton, Knowsley, Halton & St Helens. We give production companies the confidence to deliver any project, having worked on a range of high end TV, feature film and commercial productions, our expertise makes Liverpool one of the best places to film in the world.
Our History
Liverpool Film Office was set up in 1989 to manage the increasing demand of filming in the city. We are the first Film Office in Europe and have been helping filmmakers film their stories on location for the last 30 years, with unmatched expertise. Liverpool is the second most filmed city in the UK outside of London, due to the can-do approach and film-friendly reputation of a wide range of stakeholders.
What we do
Our purpose is to promote Liverpool City Region through the development of film, TV and digital content; acting as a liaison between the local authority and the communities with production companies.
We provide clients with an expert, comprehensive service through all types and aspects of production in Liverpool City Region with a team of experienced film professionals to ensure all your production needs are met quickly and efficiently. This includes but is not limited to location finding, liaison, film permissions, road closures and traffic management services, as well as links to the region’s expert crew and facilities and accommodation requirements.
Over the past 10 years the office has attracted over £100m of inward investment into the local economy from large scale feature film and high end TV drama. Production credits include; Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, Captain America: The First Avenger, Fast & Furious 6, Sherlock Holmes, Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit, Yesterday, all 5 series of Peaky Blinders and much more. A unique, diverse range of locations including urban and period architecture, beaches and rural locations means the region can double for any other, most commonly for New York, London, and more recently Moscow and Washington DC.
The Future
In 2019, we launched the Liverpool City Region Production Fund, a £2 million regional production fund, an equity investment of up to £500,000, that can be combined with other public and private monies as well as with the UK Tax Credits.
Local initiatives to further develop the film, TV and related industries across the Liverpool City Region include the development of a £35m ‘digital campus’ – Littlewoods Film Studios. The site will include the north of England’s largest sound stages and a package of producer incentives are now underway that will provide the capacity to accommodate high value projects and open opportunities for business, skills and talent in the region.
